Press Release
Summertime is thunderstorm season: take precautions for storm damage with “Wetter-Alarm” and Nationale Suisse
18.6.2012
Summer thunderstorms and hailstorms usually arrive in June, according to the statistics. But now you can be prepared: The Swiss weather alarm warning service “Wetter-Alarm” – now supported by Nationale Suisse – provides free information about imminent storms. Via this partnership the insurance company is making an active contribution to preventing losses, as preventing them costs less than repairing the damage.
Loss prevention is very important at Nationale Suisse. The insurer has thus recently started working together with the cantonal building insurance companies and SF Meteo on the weather alarm service “Wetter-Alarm”. The Swiss weather alarm provides free information via apps, text message, e-mail or fax about imminent storms in Switzerland. Subscribers receive the up-to-date messages with brief tips on what to do – all tailored to the specific region. The information is provided by SF Meteo, the weather team at the Swiss TV station SF.
Information in good time
To date, around 300,000 people have subscribed to the weather alarm service throughout Switzerland. The service is aimed primarily at people who could be particularly affected by storms, such as homeowners, car drivers, bikers and hikers. Even minor but nevertheless irritating storm damage can be minimized or avoided if information is provided in good time. For instance, people can close their window shutters if a storm is imminent, roll up the blinds, put away their garden furniture, adapt their journey to the weather conditions and park their car in a safe place if hail is forecast.
Free subscription
The “Wetter-Alarm” app is available in the App Store and on Google Play for Android devices. You can find additional information and details on how to register at www.wetteralarm.ch.
