Press Release
Roger Federer Foundation: every 57th kilometre counts
25.6.2012
Since last autumn, the Nationale Suisse locomotive has been transporting passengers around Switzerland in aid of a good cause. For every 57 kilometres it travels, Nationale Suisse makes a donation to the Roger Federer Foundation. Any day now, the locomotive will pass the 250 000 kilometre mark and the donations will soon hit 45 000 Swiss francs.
Roger Federer, brand ambassador for Nationale Suisse, officially gave his name to the Nationale Suisse locomotive last October. The train has been travelling through Switzerland with the tennis star’s image emblazoned on its side ever since – already covering some 250 000 kilometres in the process. This corresponds to almost 4 500 times the length of the new Gotthard Base Tunnel, which stretches over 57 kilometres. For every time the train completes this tunnel distance, Nationale Suisse adds another CHF 10 to the donation fund. Soon the donations will amount to more than 45 000 francs, which will go to the Roger Federer Foundation. The foundation supports innovative educational projects in Africa and Switzerland.
The Gotthard Base Tunnel – a milestone in transport history and for Nationale Suisse
For over ten years Nationale Suisse has been one of the main insurers of the construction site at the Gotthard Base Tunnel – the longest rail tunnel in the world. The company has established close links with the Swiss rail network through its involvement in this epoch-making project. “The construction of this tunnel is a milestone both in the history of Swiss transport and for Nationale Suisse, which is applying its tremendous wealth of experience in engineering insurance to the project”, says Hans Künzle, CEO of Nationale Suisse. The locomotive’s current mileage and thus also the level of donations made to the Roger Federer Foundation are updated on a monthly basis at www.nationalesuisse.ch/locomotive.
